About Myra Hess
Myra Hess was a renowned pianist born on February 25, 1890, in England. She gained fame for her exceptional interpretations of composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, and Schumann. Prior to her successful music career, she studied at the Guildhall School of Music and received a Gold Medal upon graduating. During World War II, she created lunchtime concerts as an alternative to evening performances that were affected by blackout restrictions due to the German threat, which later led to the founding of the City Music Society.
Hess also dedicated herself to teaching and had many notable students who achieved recognition for their musical talents including Clive Lythgoe and Richard and John Contiguglia.
