About Monica Gonzalez
Monica Gonzalez is a Mexican-American former soccer player, born on October 10, 1978, in Corpus Christi, Texas. She played for the Mexican national team from 1998 to 2011 and later became a broadcaster, serving as an analyst at the 2011 Women’s World Cup.
Prior to her soccer career, Gonzalez attended the University of Notre Dame where she received Second-Team Academic All-American honors in 2001.
In addition to her contributions to soccer as a player and broadcaster, Gonzalez founded The Gonzo Soccer Academy, a non-profit clinic aimed at honing the soccer skills of young girls. Her family also has strong ties to soccer—her brother played at the United States Naval Academy.
