About Mona Golabek
Mona Golabek was born on June 23, 1950, in Los Angeles, California. She is a concert pianist and author best known for writing the book The Children of Willesden Lane in 2002, which tells the story of her pianist mother’s experiences during the Kindertransport.
Prior to gaining fame as an author, Golabek won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 1972, leading to her debut at Carnegie Hall in New York City. In addition to her successful music career, she co-performed with her sister Renee Golabek-Kaye in a well-received rendition of Camille Saint-Saens’s The Carnival of the Animals in 1992.
Golabek has spoken openly about how both sets of grandparents were killed at Auschwitz during World War II while expressing gratitude that her mother survived thanks to the Kindertransport program.
