About Miriam Fried
Miriam Fried (born September 9, 1946) is a Romanian-Israeli violinist and music teacher. She is known for her recordings of the works of Bach and Sibelius and has held teaching positions at the Steans Institute for Young Artists, the New England Conservatory, and Indiana University.
As the daughter of a music teacher, Fried started learning to play the piano at an early age before she expressed her preference for the violin.
Her concert instrument of choice was a Stradivarius made in 1718, once owned by renowned violinists Regina Strinasacchi and Louis Spohr.
Fried married fellow violinist Paul Biss, with whom she has two sons: Jonathan pursued a career in classical music while Daniel pursued American politics.
