About Millie Hughes-Fulford
Millie Hughes-Fulford (born December 21, 1945) is an American chemist and astronaut. She was born in Mineral Wells, Texas.
She became a payload specialist on the first NASA Spacelab mission dedicated to biomedical studies. Later, she became a Professor at the University of California Medical Center at San Francisco.
Prior to her career as an astronaut and professor, Hughes-Fulford began college at the age of 16. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and biology from Tarleton State University and obtained her Ph.D. from Texas Woman’s University.
Her studies largely focused on researching the control of human prostate cancer cell growth.
Hughes-Fulford married George Fulford and they had one daughter.
