About Maya Karin
Maya Karin (born October 29, 1979) is a Malaysian actress known for her appearances in numerous films, including Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam and Waris Jari Hantu. She has received several awards for her performances, such as the Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 25th Malaysian Film Festival in 2013 for Ombak Rindu.
Before starting her acting career, Karin began as a host on the Malaysian television show Wavelength in 2000 and made her film debut in Sri Dewi Malam. In addition to acting, she also released her first vocal music album titled Erti Cinta (Definition of Love) in 2002.
Karin was born in Bayreuth, Germany to a Malaysian mother and German father. Growing up with her two siblings mostly in Indonesia. She was previously married to Steven David Shorthose before later separating.
