About Mary Stauffer
Mary Stauffer was born on January 1, 1944, in Duluth, Minnesota. She is best known for being a kidnapping victim along with her daughter.
In May of 1980, she and her daughter were exiting a salon when they were accosted by Ming Sen Shiue. Shiue held them at gunpoint and loaded them into the trunk of his car. A 6-year-old boy witnessed the crime and was murdered by Shiue as a result. He then took Stauffer and her daughter back to his house, where he kept them in a small closet for 53 days. During that time, he raped Stauffer repeatedly while filming the assaults.
Prior to May of 1980, Stauffer had been an English teacher and later a Christian missionary before becoming well-known due to the tragic events surrounding her abduction.
In 2019, Lifetime released a movie about Stauffer’s ordeal titled Abducted: The Mary Stauffer Story which depicted the harrowing experience she went through after being abducted.
It was revealed that Shiue had been one of Stauffer’s students from fifteen years prior; during his criminal trial, he attacked her with a knife leaving wounds that needed sixty-two stitches.
