About Marina Silva
Marina Silva is a Brazilian politician and activist born on February 8, 1958, in Rio Branco, Brazil. She is best known for her environmental work and has held various positions including spokesperson of the Sustainability Network, Senator for Acre, Minister of the Environment, and Councillor of Rio Branco.
Before embarking on her political career, Silva led demonstrations against deforestation in 1984 and was elected to the Federal Senate in 1994. In 2003, she began serving as Minister of the Environment.
In addition to her political career, Marina Silva also had the honor of being one of eight flag bearers at the London Summer Olympic Games opening ceremony in 2012. She was raised in the village of Breu Velho outside Rio Branco, Acre.
