About Marilyn Bergman
Marilyn Bergman (born November 10, 1928) is an American songwriter from Brooklyn, New York. In 1983, she made history as the first songwriter to have written three out of five songs nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song. She frequently collaborated with her husband on their music and penned two musicals. Before her songwriting career took off, Bergman studied psychology and English at New York University. Her accolades include induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1980 and receiving the Women in Film Crystal Award in 1986.
In 1958, Bergman married her longtime songwriting partner Alan Bergman, who co-wrote the three Oscar-nominated numbers from 1983: “How Do You Keep the Music Playing?” from Best Friends, “It Might Be You” from Tootsie alongside Dave Grusin, and “If We Were in Love” from Yes, Giorgio with John Williams.
