After graduating with an arts degree, Hardwick initially worked in small fashion shops before selling her own designs through her boutique, The Garb Shop. While her initial focus was not on designing bridal gowns, she became well-known for incorporating vintage details such as ruffles and Victorian lace into her designs during the 1970s.
It was when brides began wearing her designs as wedding dresses that she decided to specialize in bridalwear. This led to the official launch of her bridal brand in 1982.
Hardwick’s designs have garnered attention from celebrities like Chantelle Stanton and have become popular choices for brides around the world. Her daughter-in-law Rebekah Malone serves as the managing director of her bridal business since 2010.
