About Maria Lourdes Sereno
Maria Lourdes Sereno, born on July 2, 1960 in the Philippines, is a former Supreme Court Justice. In 2012, she was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Philippine Supreme Court after serving as an Associate Justice and heading two organizations: Accesslaw Inc. and the Asian Institute of Management Policy Center.
Prior to her judicial career, Sereno earned a degree in economics from Ateneo de Manila University followed by a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of the Philippines. She then pursued further studies at the University of Michigan Law School.
For almost twenty years, she also held a teaching position at the University of the Philippines’ law school while being married to Mario Jose Sereno with whom she has two children.
