About Margarita Zavala
Margarita Zavala is a Mexican lawyer and politician who served as the First Lady of Mexico from 2006 to 2012. Born on July 25, 1967, in Mexico City, she has been actively involved in politics from a young age, serving as a youth leader of the Partido Accion Nacional at just 17 years old.
After initially meeting Felipe Calderon in 1984 while both were activists of the PAN Party, she went on to work for various private law firms before being elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 2003.
Zavala’s political career also includes her membership in the Legislative Assembly of the Federal District. She has received numerous international honors, such as being awarded with the Dame Grand Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholic in Spain and receiving this honor again with The Dame Grand Cross Of The Order Of Dannebrog In Denmark.
Zavala married former President Felipe Calderon in 1993 and they have three children together.
