About Mama Cax
Mama Cax, born Nee Cacsmy Brutus on November 20th, 1989 in Haiti, was a blogger and fashion icon known for promoting body positivity among individuals with disabilities. Despite having a prosthetic leg herself, she achieved recognition as a model and became popular on Instagram. Tragically, Mama Cax passed away at the age of 30 due to complications from pulmonary embolism.
Before gaining fame, she obtained a B.A. in international studies and pursued further education by working towards a master’s degree. In 2005, Mama Cax underwent an amputation of her leg after being diagnosed with bone and lung cancer. At that time, medical professionals had given her only three weeks to live.
Her powerful messages about self-love led to features in publications such as Huffington Post, TeenVogue, and BuzzFeed. As a Haitian-American, she resided in Brooklyn, New York.
