Maggie Thompson, born on November 29, 1942 in Ohio, is a renowned comic book author and editor. She gained fame for editing the popular journal Comics Buyer’s Guide and was also known for her “Maggie’s World” column in the San Diego Comic-Con International blog. Her work on the former publication earned her several accolades including Eisner, Jack Kirby, and Inkpot awards, as well as a Comic Art Favorite Fan Writer honor.
Prior to becoming celebrated in the world of comics, Thompson graduated from Oberlin College and worked as a librarian. Alongside her husband, she collaborated on creating fanzines such as Harbinger, Comic Art, and Newfangles. It is interesting to note that she sometimes wrote under the pseudonym of Arthur Judson.
Thompson comes from a family deeply connected to science fiction; her mother Betty Curtis was a Hugo Award-nominated sci-fi author. With her husband Don Thompson, Maggie raised two children named Stephen and Valerie while essentially co-creating comic book fandom alongside him.
