About Lynn Petronella
Lynn Petronella (born December 17, 1954) is a retired world-class marathon runner who later became a crusader for female athletes. Born in New York, she attended the University of Colorado, Boulder where she began her marathon training in the mid-70s.
Petronella’s Olympic dreams were thwarted due to the U.S.’s boycott of the 1980 Olympics. However, she went on to coach Joan Benoit, who won the first-ever Women’s Olympic Marathon in 1984.
Aside from her athletic achievements, Petronella is also known as an author and producer. She founded Athlettes Media LLC and wrote the book “Know Where to Run: An American Odyssey.”
She is one of five children born to Horace and Rosemarie Petronella.
