Lucille Soong (born August 15, 1938) is a Chinese-born actress known for her work in television. She is best known for her role as Grandma Huang on the ABC sitcom Fresh Off the Boat and has appeared in recurring roles on shows like Desperate Housewives. With a career spanning several decades, Soong has also made appearances in classic films such as The Joy Luck Club (1993).
Born in Beijing, China, Soong moved to Hong Kong in her early twenties where she was discovered by director Lewis Gilbert. This led to her appearance in his film Ferry to Hong Kong (1959). Before pursuing acting, she had a successful modeling career and became the first Chinese fashion model listed in the English Models Directory.
Soong’s birth name is Jingxiu Song.
