About Lubka Kolessa
Lubka Kolessa (born May 19, 1902 in Ukraine) was a classical pianist known for her successful recording and performing career on both sides of the Atlantic. She studied with composer Eugen d’Albert from 1929 to 1930, which greatly impacted her musicality. Kolessa also appeared on British television as early as 1937, performing a concert in Ukrainian folk dress. She came from a prominent Ukrainian intellectual family with deep musical roots, including ethnomusicologist Filaret Kolessa and composer/conductor Mykola Kolessa.
