Lana Wachowski, born on June 21, 1965 in Chicago, Illinois, is an American director known for her work alongside sister Lilly Wachowski. Together, they are best known for creating The Matrix trilogy and directing films such as Speed Racer, Cloud Atlas and Jupiter Ascending.
Before gaining prominence as a director, Lana was born as Laurence Wachowski and started transitioning genders in the early 2000s. Her full transition was publicly revealed in 2008.
Notable achievements include co-creating the Netflix original series Sense8 and being honored with the Human Rights Campaign’s Visibility Award.
Lana comes from a family with her mother Lynne working as a nurse and painter, while her father Ron was a businessman. She has two sisters named Lilly and Lauren, along with another sister named Julie; actor Laurence Luckinbill is their uncle. Lana is married to Karin Winslow.
