About Kelly Cherry
Kelly Cherry (born December 21, 1940) is a poet, fiction and nonfiction writer. She served as the Poet Laureate of Virginia and is best known for works such as Death and Transfiguration, Rising Venus, and Hazard and Prospect.
Cherry attended the University of Virginia and the University of North Carolina-Greensboro before beginning her teaching career at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the late 1970s.
In addition to her literary endeavors, she also contributed reviews to publications such as the Los Angeles Times and New York Book Review. Cherry was born in Louisiana but spent much of her childhood in New York and Virginia before marrying Burke Davis III.
