About Keiko Matsui
Keiko Matsui (born July 26, 1961) is an internationally acclaimed smooth jazz, jazz fusion, and New Age keyboardist from Japan. She is also known for discovering famed saxophonist Paul Taylor. Matsui won the Oasis Awards for Artist of the Year in both 1999 and 2000.
Prior to fame, Matsui studied children’s culture at Japan Women’s University and music at the Yamaha Music Foundation.
Her solo debut LP, “A Drop of Water,” released in 1987 was dedicated to those who perished in the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster that year.
Matsui’s mother Emiko started her on piano lessons when she turned five years old.
