Tkay Maidza, born on December 17, 1995 in Zimbabwe, is an Australian rapper and recording artist. She gained recognition for her hit songs “U-huh” and “Switch Lanes” in 2014 and her collaboration with Troye Sivan on the track “DKLA” in 2015. Maidza made a successful entry into the Australian hip hop industry following the release of her debut EP.
Before pursuing music full-time, she was known as Takudzwa Victoria Rosa Maidza and graduated from high school at the age of 16. She initially enrolled to study architecture at the University of South Australia but ultimately decided to focus solely on her musical career. Her debut single “Brontosaurus,” released when she was just 17 years old, marked the beginning of her journey as an artist.
In addition to her musical accomplishments, Tkay has also been recognized for her song “Switch Lanes,” which claimed the 100th spot on Triple J Hottest 100 chart in place of Taylor Swift‘s disqualified track “Shake It Off.” Tkay comes from a family background where both parents are professionals; her father works as an industrial chemist while her mother is a metallurgist.
