About Katherine Philips
Katherine Philips (1632-01-01) was a seventeenth-century English-Welsh poet and translator, recognized for her poetic works and translation of Pierre Corneille’s work. Before gaining fame, she was a member of The Society of Friendship and hosted the organization’s Welsh chapter at her home. Some literary critics have noted subtle lesbian undertones in her poems, such as “To my Excellent Lucasia, on our Friendship.” Despite marrying a wealthy family friend, her poem “To my dearest Antenor” suggests that she may not have been truly in love with him.
