Katharine McCormick (1875-08-27) was a prominent Civil Rights Leader from the United States. She is recognized for her significant support of the women’s rights movement, particularly for financing the campaign to legalize oral contraceptives.
Prior to her fame, McCormick became involved in the campaign for women’s suffrage while attending MIT. Her meeting with Margaret Sanger, a pioneer of reproductive rights, sparked her interest in contraception.
Notably, McCormick used her substantial financial resources to finance research on birth-control pills and actively participated in their development and trials.
McCormick married Stanley McCormick, heir to the International Harvester Company fortune. However, soon after their marriage he began displaying symptoms of dementia.
