About Kamala Surayya
Kamala Surayya, born on March 31, 1934 in India, was a renowned twentieth-century Indian poet and author. She received numerous accolades for her literary contributions, including the Vayalar Award, the Sahitya Akademi Award, and the Asian Poetry Prize.
Surayya’s extensive body of work includes poetry such as The Sirens, memoirs like My Story, novels including Alphabet of Lust, and short stories in Chekkerunna Pakshikal.
She began her writing career by publishing poetry and short fiction during her teenage years. Additionally, she worked as a newspaper columnist early in her career. Notably, Surayya published under various pen names such as “Madhavikutty” and “Kamala Das.”
Surayya shared family life with her husband K. Madhava Das; together they had three children: Madhav, Chinnen,and Jayasurya.
