About June Christy
June Christy, born on November 20, 1925 in Illinois, was a jazz singer best known for her influential 1954 album “Something Cool,” featuring singles like “It Could Happen to You.” In addition to her solo career, she gained recognition for her time as a vocalist with The Stan Kenton Orchestra. Before rising to prominence, she performed with a Chicago band using the pseudonym Sharon Leslie.
Christy’s personal struggles with alcoholism led to a semi-retirement in 1969. However, she made a comeback in 1977 and recorded her final album “Impromptu” before leaving show business altogether. She had a daughter named Shay Cooper in 1954.
