About Julie Fowlis
Julie Fowlis, born on June 20, 1979 in Scotland, is a renowned folk singer known for her Scottish Gaelic vocal performances and proficiency with multiple musical instruments. She has released five solo albums between 2005 and 2014 and has also collaborated with music groups like Dual, Brolum, and Dochas. Fowlis has been honored with several BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
Prior to her fame as a musician, she completed a bachelor’s degree in English horn and oboe performance at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland before furthering her studies in Scottish Gaelic music at Sabhal Mor Ostaig.
An interesting fact about Julie is that in 2008 she recorded “Lon Dubh,” a cover of the popular Beatles song “Blackbird.”
Fowlis was born and raised in North Uist, Outer Hebrides community in Scotland before settling down in Dingwall with her husband Eamon Doorley who is also her musical collaborator. The couple welcomed their daughters Eabha and Niamh into the world in 2010 and 2012 respectively.
