About Julia Smith
Julia Smith was a TV producer best known for creating the popular BBC soap opera EastEnders in 1983. Born on May 26, 1927, in England, she began her career as a director and producer. Prior to her fame, she directed an episode of Z Cars where she met her future business partner Tony Holland.
In addition to her work on EastEnders, Julia also developed the unsuccessful soap opera Eldorado shortly after its creation. She maintained that the BBC hadn’t given it a chance to find its footing.
Julia resided in London during her retirement from TV and unfortunately passed away due to cancer in 1997.
