About Josephine Humphreys
Josephine Humphreys (born February 2, 1945) is an American novelist known for her southern-themed literature and historical fiction. She has authored several acclaimed works including Dreams of Sleep, The Fireman’s Fair, and Nowhere Else on Earth. In 1987, her novel Rich in Love was adapted into a film featuring Albert Finney.
Prior to gaining fame as a writer, Humphreys studied creative writing at Duke University and later pursued higher education at Yale University and the University of Texas. Her literary achievements include winning the Hemingway Foundation/PEN Award for her 1984 novel Dreams of Sleep.
Humphreys was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina. She is married to Tom Hutcheson.
