About John H. Striebel
John H. Striebel was a cartoonist best known for creating the long-running Dixie Dugan syndicated cartoon strip, which depicted the adventures of a Hollywood showgirl. He was born on September 14, 1891 in Michigan. Before his career as a comic strip artist, he provided illustrations for the Dixie Dugan novel series penned by J.P. McEvoy. In 1929, Striebel made the decision to transform the series into a daily newspaper cartoon.
In addition to his work on Dixie Dugan, Striebel also spent eight years working on a strip called Pantomime and contributed illustrations to various magazines. He hailed from Bertrand, Michigan but relocated with his family to South Bend, Indiana during his youth.
