About Joana Avillez
Joana Avillez (born August 21, 1986) is an illustrator from New York City, New York. She is known for her distinctive illustrations reminiscent of Shel Silverstein’s work and has been featured in publications such as The New York Times, Vogue, Refinery29, and numerous other magazines and newspapers. Avillez studied at the Rhode Island School of Design before earning a degree in illustration from NYU’s School of Visual Arts. She collaborated with writer Molly Young on their book D C-T!, published by Penguin Press. Avillez comes from a family with parents named Gwendolyn and Jose Martim.
