About Jewell Parker Rhodes
Jewell Parker Rhodes (born February 12, 1954) is an American novelist and educator. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Rhodes is best known for her New York Times bestsellers Black Brother and Ghost Boys. Her accolades include The Walter Award, the Indies Choice/EB White Read-Aloud Award, and the Jane Addams Children’s Book Award for Older Readers.
Prior to her literary career, Rhodes earned a Doctor of Arts in English from Carnegie Mellon University. Her first novel, Voodoo Dreams, was published in 1993. Additionally, she released a non-fiction work titled Porch Stories: A Grandmother’s Guide to Happiness in 2006.
