About Janette Oke
Janette Oke is a Canadian novelist born on February 18, 1935. She is known for her works of Christianity-themed historical fiction and became famous for her Love Comes Softly, Prairie Legacy, and Seasons of the Heart series. Over a period of thirty years, from 1981 to 2011, she penned nearly eighty inspirational books.
Oke earned a degree from Mountain View Bible College in Alberta, Canada before finding a publisher for her debut novel, Love Comes Softly. In 1992, she received the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association’s President’s Award.
Oke grew up on the western Canadian prairie as the daughter of Amy Ruggles Steeves and farmer Fred Steeves. In 1957, she married Edward Oke with whom she raised four children.
