About Janet Yellen
Janet Yellen was born on August 13, 1946 in New York City, New York. She is an American politician and teacher who became the 15th Chair of the Federal Reserve in February 2014 and was the Vice Chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve from 2010 until 2014.
Prior to her political career, she earned a degree in economics from Pembroke College in 1967 and a PhD in economics from Yale University in 1971. In addition to her political achievements, she was elected as a Distinguished Fellow of the American Economic Association in 2012.
Yellen married Nobel prize-winning economist George Akerlof, and they have a son named Robert.
