About Jane Yolen
Jane Yolen was born on February 11, 1939 in New York City, New York. She is a renowned young adult author known for her fantasy books such as Owl Moon and How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight. One of her most acclaimed works, The Devil’s Arithmetic, focuses on the theme of the Holocaust and she has also received a Nebula Award for her story Sister Emily’s Lightship.
Prior to gaining recognition as an author, Yolen was raised in various states across the United States including New York, California, and Virginia. She attended Smith College before publishing her first young adult book titled The Bird of Time in 1971.
Yolen married David W. Stemple in 1962 with whom she had three children. The couple lived primarily in Massachusetts but also owned a home in Scotland.
In addition to her literary accolades, Yolen made history by becoming the first woman to deliver the Andrew Lang lecture during her career.
