About Jackie Hill-Perry
Jackie Hill-Perry (born June 21, 1989) is a spoken word poet from St. Louis, Missouri. She is widely known for her ability to infuse traditional Christian themes into her poetry and hip-hop music. In 2014, she released her debut rap album The Art of Joy.
Prior to gaining fame as a poet, Hill-Perry notably converted to Christianity in 2008 and later made claims of converting from a lesbian lifestyle to identifying as heterosexual. Shortly after her religious conversion, she began performing spoken word poetry.
Hill-Perry gained prominence for recounting her life as a lesbian in the spoken word poem “My Life as a Stud,” which was featured at the Passion 4 Christ Movement. Additionally, she appeared as a guest artist on the 2013 album Instruments of Mercy by Beautiful Eulogy.
In 2014, Jackie Hill-Perry married fellow spoken word poet Preston Perry. The couple has four children: August, Autumn, Sage and Eden.
