Iryna Yatchenko is a Belarusian discus thrower who was born on October 31, 1965, in Russia. She made her mark in the world of athletics by winning two Olympic bronze medals, but unfortunately had her second medal stripped due to doping charges.
Yatchenko began her competitive career by participating in the 1990 European Athletics Championships and went on to represent her country at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Her first Olympic medal came at the 2000 games.
In 1992, she married fellow athlete Igor Astapkovich, a hammer thrower.
