About Ima Hogg
Ima Hogg, born on July 10, 1882, in Mineola, Texas, was known as the First Lady of Texas. She was a noted art and antiques collector and used her wealth to benefit the citizens of the state.
Before fame, when oil was discovered on her family’s plantation she enjoyed a comfortable upbringing and was able to study music in Europe.
Hogg founded the Houston Child Guidance Center for disturbed children as she firmly believed that mental health problems in adults stemmed from untreated diseases in their childhood.
She tragically lost her mother to tuberculosis early on and was raised by her widowed older sister.
