About Ida Saxton McKinley
Ida Saxton McKinley, born on June 8, 1847 in Canton, Ohio, served as the First Lady from 1897 to 1901 as the wife of twenty-fifth President William McKinley. Prior to her role as First Lady, she worked as a cashier in her father’s bank in a position typically held by men. After experiencing the deaths of her mother and two daughters, she developed epilepsy and became entirely reliant on her husband. Ida and William had two daughters who tragically passed away at young ages.
