About Hilda Hilst
Hilda Hilst, born on April 21, 1930, in Sao Paulo, Brazil, was a prominent twentieth-century Brazilian poet and author. She is celebrated for her literary works that explore themes such as insanity, intimacy, and the supernatural. Some of her most renowned pieces of poetry and fiction include “Cartas de um sedutor” (Letters from a Seducer) and “A obscena senhora D” (The Obscene Madame D).
Before gaining recognition for her writing, Hilst received education at the Mackenzie Presbyterian Institute in Sao Paulo and pursued studies in law. Notably, her poems were adapted into musical compositions by Adoniron Barbosa and various other composers.
Hilda Hilst’s upbringing took place in Sao Paulo alongside her closest friend Lygia Fagundes Telles who was also an accomplished writer.
