About Hilda Hewlett
Hilda Hewlett (born February 17, 1864) was an early female pilot and the founder of a successful aircraft manufacturing company in the United Kingdom. Before her aviation career, she spent time in Egypt during her late teens and later attended nursing school. She then pursued a career in aviation alongside engineer Gustav Blondeau, with whom she opened a flying school in England and began manufacturing and selling airplane parts. Hilda’s father was Rev. George W. Herbert, the vicar of an English church.
