About Harriet Hosmer
Harriet Hosmer was an American sculptor born on October 9, 1830 in Massachusetts. She is known for her work creating marble busts, including Daphne and Medusa, Beatrice Cenci, and Zenobia, Queen of Palmyra. Before pursuing a career in sculpture, she studied anatomy under Dr. Joseph Nash McDowell at the Missouri Medical College.
In addition to her artistic pursuits, Hosmer also designed and constructed machinery related to sculpture. She came from a family that encouraged physical activities, with her father being particularly supportive of her interests.
