About Grace Moore
Grace Moore, born on December 5, 1898 in Del Rio, Tennessee, was an American opera singer known by the nickname “the Tennessee Nightingale”. She embarked on a successful career that spanned both the Metropolitan Opera stage and Broadway as well as film.
Before rising to fame, Moore studied singing in New York and performed in nightclubs to support herself. Her career kicked off during the Roaring Twenties with her debut on Broadway.
In addition to her performances at the Met in Paris where she sang in various Italian operas, Moore also had the honor of giving a Royal Command Performance at Covent Garden in London.
Born Mary Willie Grace Moore in Slabtown (modern-day Del Rio) located in Cocke County, Tennessee; she later moved with her family to Knoxville during her early years.
