About Grace Lin
Grace Lin (born May 17, 1974) is an American children’s author and illustrator. She is known for her acclaimed works including Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, The Year of the Dog, and Olvina Swims. In 2010 she received a Newbery Honor Book mention and in 2007 she was awarded an Asian-Pacific American Literature Award honorable mention.
Lin received her artistic training at the Rhode Island School of Design before publishing her first children’s picture book, The Ugly Vegetables, in 1999. Her work addresses the emotions of adopted children and their families as seen in her 2007 book The Red Thread: An Adoption Fairy Tale.
Born to Taiwanese-born parents, Lin grew up in New York City. She was married to Robert Mercer until his death from cancer in 2007. In 2010 she married Alex Ferron, with whom she welcomed a daughter in 2012.
