About Gillian Rose
Gillian Rose was an English philosopher known for her criticisms of neo-Kantianism and post-modernism. Born on September 20, 1947, she studied at St Hilda’s College in Oxford, where she was inspired by her philosophy professor Jean Austin.
Her academic pursuits led her to focus on defending Hegel’s speculative thought, and her dissertation explored the work of Theodor W. Adorno under the supervision of Leszek Kolakowski.
Rose served as a faculty member at the University of Warwick from 1989 to 1995. She had a diverse family background with one sister, two half-sisters, and one half-brother.
