About Gemma O’Brien
Gemma O’Brien (born June 4, 1987) is an Australian artist, illustrator, and typographer known for her specialization in hand-lettering. She has worked with prominent brands such as QANTAS, Heinz, The New York Times, Volcom, and Smirnoff to design a variety of products. In addition to commercial work, she has showcased her art at galleries worldwide.
Before pursuing a career in art and design, O’Brien dropped out of law school to move to Sydney and earn a degree in design. Her interest in typography was sparked during her time at university when she had the opportunity to work with a letterpress. One of her early breakthroughs came from an experimental short film where she inscribed her body with hand lettering.
Represented by The Jacky Winter Group, O’Brien has also spoken at various international conferences including TYPO Talks Seminars Permanent and agIdeas International Design Forum.
O’Brien resides in Sydney, Australia.
