Fanny Wright was a prominent 19th century Women’s Liberation activist and abolitionist born on September 6, 1795 in Scotland. She is best known for founding the Nashoba Commune in Tennessee, a utopian community aimed at preparing slaves for emancipation.
Wright spent her early years being raised in England by her aunt before becoming deeply involved in civil rights causes. Notably, she authored the book “Views of Society and Manners in America,” which critiqued contemporary American society.
Her parents were Camilla Campbell and James Wright.
