About Emily Sonnett
Emily Sonnett is a soccer player born on November 25, 1993, in Marietta, Georgia. She is best known for her career with the Portland Thorns FC of the National Women’s Soccer League as a midfielder/defender. Sonnett has also represented the United States Women’s National Team at both junior and senior levels.
Prior to her professional career, Sonnett played for the University of Virginia Cavaliers women’s soccer team from 2012 to 2015. Following her senior season, she received numerous accolades, including being named the ESPNW Player of the Year.
Sonnett made her debut for the senior US Women’s National Team on October 26, 2015, against Brazil and was selected first overall by the Portland Thorns Football Club in the 2016 NWSL Draft.
She hails from Marietta, Georgia where she was raised by her parents Jane and Bill and has a twin sister Emma who also pursued collegiate soccer at the University of Georgia.
