About Elswyth Thane
Elswyth Thane was an American author born on May 16, 1900, in Iowa. She is best known for her work as a novelist, particularly for her romance novels and historical fiction. Her most popular series, the Williamsburg books, spans several generations of a fictional family from the American Revolution through World War II.
Prior to gaining renown as a writer, Thane worked as a freelance writer in the 1920s and also had a brief tenure as a screenwriter in Hollywood. In 1926, she published her debut novel titled Riders of the Wind.
In addition to the Williamsburg series, some of Thane’s other notable works include From This Day Forward (1941) and The Lost General (1953).
Thane was born Helen Ricker in Burlington, Iowa; she grew up as the daughter of a teacher and high school principal.
Tragically Elswyth died on July 20th ,1984.
