About Else Lasker-Schuler
Else Lasker-Schuler (born February 11, 1869) was a German-Jewish poet and playwright known for her expressionist works. Her best-known play, Die Wupper, debuted in Berlin in 1919. She was born to Jeanette Kissing Schuler and Aaron Schuler, both of whom would reappear as characters in her writing. Lasker-Schuler moved from Germany to Jerusalem in response to the Nazi threat. She was married to Jonathan Berthold Lasker, a doctor, with whom she had a son in 1899. Following their divorce, she remarried Georg Lewin.
