About Ella Leffland
Ella Leffland (born November 25, 1931) is an American novelist and short story writer known for her works that often depict the experiences of women in historical settings. She gained widespread recognition for her 1979 novel, Rumors of Peace, which follows the coming-of-age journey of a young girl during World War II.
Leffland’s literary career also includes the novels Mrs. Munck (1970) and Love Out of Season (1974). Her writing has been celebrated for its vivid storytelling and insightful portrayal of human emotions in times of conflict and change.
Born in California, Leffland studied at San Jose State University before launching her writing career. A notable achievement was when her short story “Last Courtesies” received the prestigious O. Henry Award in 1974.
